Complete Dentures

There are two types of complete dentures: immediate and conventional. Conventional dentures are inserted after about eight to 12 weeks. Immediate dentures can be placed soon after the teeth have been removed. During the healing period, the patient doesn’t have to remain without teeth. Immediate dentures may require adjustments since the tissues of the gums and bones may shrink during the healing process.

Partial Dentures

In the presence of natural teeth, partial dentures are used. They consist of teeth attached to a pink or gum-colored plastic base. The base is connected to a framework made of metal to provide support and hold the denture in the mouth. A precision partial denture has attachments on the inner part to attach to crowns adjacent to it, and they are also removable.

Alternative for Dentures

Implants can be used instead of using dentures especially to offer support to cemented bridges. Bridges and implants offer a feel of having real teeth in the mouth. If all teeth are missing, then the available option is having dentures fixed.

How Are Dentures Made?

This is a procedure that requires several visits to the dentist or prosthodontist to identify the best appliances for your mouth. Identification of jaw relationship as well as taking impressions of your jaw will be done. The next step is to make models, wax forms, and plastic patterns to the desired shape and position of the denture. This will be done several times until you get a final denture. In this step, adjustments are made to fit your mouth appropriately.

Can I Adjust or Repair Dentures?

Upon acquiring dentures visiting the dentist can be done to make sure that you get adjustments to fit into them appropriately. It is unsafe to repair dentures by yourself in case of any damage. Any bending clasp or any metal attachment of your denture is damaging it and weakening it. If your dentures are not fitting into your mouth as they should, they can cause sores to your mouth and irritation on your gums.
